WALAP was created by a group of women leaders within the Orange County Sheriff’s Office, Florida. They, along with their Sheriff, attended a California Women Leaders in Law Enforcement (WLLE) symposium in September 2023.
Connecting, collaborating, and networking with other female leaders was such an exhilarating experience—they left wanting more. Inspired, and recognizing the need for such an organization in the Central Florida area, they banded together to create the Women's Alliance for Leadership Development in Policing, or "WALAP".
Each of our WALAP women brings a wealth of experience and skills to the organization. They are passionate about leadership, professional training, mentorship, higher education, and employee wellness. WALAP welcomes civilian and sworn personnel in the policing field. Although our primary focus is on building women leaders in policing, everyone is welcome. WALAP recognizes the important role families and the community play in supporting our mission.
WALAP is a voluntary, non-profit association, seeking 501(c)3 status. We are dedicated to inspiring, educating and empowering women in policing to excel in leadership roles.
